Fashion has nothing to do with minimalism and whenever i see a story that tries to sell that idea, I literally see red. why do I get so upset when this happens? It is simple. The idea of minimalism is to balance yourself with your surroundings, with nature and with your soul. Fashion has nothing to do with that. Fashion is simply fashion and not a part of minimalism.
So what exactly is 90’s minimalism fashion. As far as I know minimalism is something that not too many people in the 90’s were talking about. Are they using the term minimalism to refer to how little clothing you are wearing? or is just used as a catch phrase to attempt to capture a part of a fad. That’s right…minimalism is apparently a fad. Well, if that’s the case, i should be happy. This means that all these people who are faking it will eventually just quit and go back to their materialism soon.
I’m not going into any type of in-depth discussion of the “fashion”, so you can stop here if that is what you are expecting. The entire point of minimalism is to get away from such terms as “fashionable”. I have never understood why fashion is so important. We play dress up on the outside so we don’t have to spend so much time on what’s going on inside of us.
It is a type of escapism and a dereliction of your duty as a human being to constantly be working on yourself, not on your outside. I am also not saying that you shouldn’t be concerned about your health because that is entirely different. I would say the same thing to people who live at the gym and are obsessed with how they look. It is just as poisonous.
Be happy with who you are as a person and focus on what it really means to be a human being . embrace the true meaning of minimalism : letting go of stuff and all the baggage that comes with it.
