What images come to you when you think of minimalism? Do you think of empty / monotone rooms? Do you imagine single cabins in the middle of nowhere? do you see a tidy environment? It could mean a lot to different people.

there are obvious benefits to living a minimalism style of life. You obviously have less clutter, you pollute less, and you probably have more money to spend on things that matter to you. However, what some may not consider are the many other benefits that come with the minimalism lifestyle.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF MINIMALISM

So, what is minimalism and what is it not? Minimalism isn’t about removing literally everything from your life. You could do that and you may find joy in that, but that’s not minimalism. However, when you living in an environment that is of moderate to complexity, you will naturally be less stressed. You will have much less to take in so you can focus on your inner self more rather than the outward pressures of your environment. This is also why i suggest spending as much time alone in simple environments. We are constantly bombarded by advertising with complex images all competing for your eyes. This can be very stressful whether you realize it our not. On the flip side of the coin, if we live in environment which are void of any stimulation then it can have the same effect. We must always seek a balance. Our bodies and minds are designed for balance.

In our living spaces, we must look to have a utilitarian approach to it all. when we have exactly what we need, we feel a sense of fulfillment on many different levels. When we have satisfied this lower level need, we can move on to other needs which may be all screaming for your attention. If we cannot meet those higher level needs, this leads to a sense of dissatisfaction and we are no longer at ease. this feeling if left unchecked can cause all types of problems.

Clutter can be a big problem for humans these days. We literally have it everywhere and we can easily become hoarders if we don’t check ourselves. The idea that we must hold on to everything is the materialism rearing its ugly head. Materialism is more than obsessing over material things. Materialism is mainly about having your center, or the heart of who you are based entirely in this reality, this world. When we make parallels between inanimate objects and our infinite persona, then we become locked to the material items, unable to break free. We are more than the items that surround us and the unease we feel when we are surrounded by so many things is our minds trying to free themselves.

Minimalism is mainly about soul survival. We can live off material items and our bodies will continue, but who we are begins to die very quickly. We define ourselves by nothing more than inanimate objects rather than the things that truly matter in life. We must feed our souls what they crave. Our souls crave the company of others, creativity, discovery, and love. We must always feed ourselves the right foods and also the right environments.
